RoamSIM / RoamFone is a service for business travelers that offers low-cost international telephone call service for making calls from and receiving calls at a roaming GSM handset without having to pay the regular Roaming Charge.
The service works as follows:
A subscriber to the RoamSIM / RoamFone service buys a RoamSIM or RoamFone and a certain amount of credit to cover the cost of usage from a reseller of the RoamSIM service.
The RoamSIM or RoamFone comes with a RoamSIM No. issued in the U.K. with country code <44>.
(i) To make an outbound call from anywhere in any of the countries supporting the RoamSIM / RoamFone service ("Servicing Countries")
- Subscriber/user dials the Destination Number as <+>- <Country Code> - <Area Code> - <Telephone Number> on the keypad of the GSM handset
- subscriber sees a message on the screen of the GSM handset that says, "Please wait - your call is being processed"
- then the GSM Handset rings - a CallBack Call is received
- subscriber presses the "Send/Yes" key of the GSM Handset to answer the CallBack Call
- subscriber hears a message that says, "Please hold"
- subscriber then hears the ringback tone of the call to the Destination Number
(ii) When an inbound call is dialed by a caller to the RoamSIM No., the operation is as follows:
- caller dials the RoamSIM No.
- the roaming handset rings
- the subscriber/user answers the call
- subscriber presses the "Send/Yes" key to answer the call and is instantly connected with the calling party
The inbound call is billed at the per minute rate for calling the mobile dialcode of the temporary local number that is assigned to the roaming handset by the local GSM operator. The rate is given by the rate calculator at
www.roamsim.com.
No regular Roaming Charge is applicable to the outbound or inbound call described above.
There is no charge for unsuccessful or not completed inbound or outbound calls.
However, when the handset is roaming in one of 30 countries where the local GSM operator imposes a service charge to all foreign SIMs, a per minute surcharge is added to the applicable per minute rates for billing the outbound or inbound call.
But overall for the subscriber a saving of up to 85% is achieved with the use of the RoamSIM service.
See www.airello.com for details.

RoamSIM FAQ
What is RoamSIM Service?
It is a Prepaid SIM Card service that is specially designed for use by the international traveler. It offers the advantage of low-cost per minute rates for calling any fixed line or mobile number anywhere without the exorbitant roaming charges that are ordinarily imposed on calls made from a roaming handset. It is a service supported by best-of-class tier-1 GSM operators offering high-quality reliable services. With RoamSIM you have all the standard GSM services including Voice Mail and SMS. There is no significant delay or inconvenience in the use of RoamSIM to make a call. Receiving a call by the RoamSIM is exactly the same as with a regular GSM SIM card; the important difference is that with RoamSIM you achieve great savings.
How does the RoamSIM service work?
When you dial a telephone number from a roaming GSM handset equipped with RoamSIM and press SEND, the RoamSIM signals its home GSM operator (i.e. the operator that issues the RoamSIM) to do the following:
(a) to call back the roaming GSM handset to the telephone number that is assigned to the roaming GSM handset by the foreign (local) GSM operator of the GSM network servicing the GSM handset
(b) to call the destination number that you have dialed
and then bridge (or connect) the 2 calls (a) and (b) to enable you to have conversation with the party at the destination number.
The operation described in (a) and (b) above are transparent to the you, the user, and you do not experience any significant delay in making the call. As the call is dialed by your home GSM operator through its normal high-quality carrier network, you would experience the normal high-quality service.
Can I do SMS text messaging with the RoamSIM?
Yes. RoamSIM incorporates current advanced SIM technology and supports all standard features of a GSM service.
Is Voice Mail service available with RoamSIM?
Yes. All calls that are not answered after a certain number of rings (programmable to suit) are automatically routed to a Voice Mail Server where the caller can leave a voice message for the called party.
To retrieve the voice mail message, you simply dial 121.
There is a small per minute charge for accessing the Voice Mail Server plus the air time at the per minute rate for calling a UK number.

What happens when you make a call?
When you key in the number you wish to call in the dialing format
+<country-code><area-code><local telephone number> or
+<country-code><area-code><local telephone number>
RoamSIM performs its special call routing operation. This operation may cause your handset to display messages such as number not allowed, blocked call, invalid number perhaps followed by sending message. These messages are the GSM handsets response to RoamSIMs call routing requests and are normal, and you should disregard these displayed messages.
If you are using an approved GSM handset, you will get a callback call from the home GSM operator, and your GSM handset will ring. You should then press the Send/Yes key to answer the incoming call and hear a voice message that tells you to wait for the call to be connected to the party at the destination number.
Does the RoamSIM have an expiration date?
Your RoamSIM will not expire, and the RoamSIM Number will remain active as long as you recharge your card at least once within a 12-month period.
What would cause my approved GSM handset equipped with RoamSIM not be able to automatically connect to an available GSM network?
An approved GSM handset equipped with a RoamSIM will automatically connect to an available GSM network. In some countries where there are more than one available GSM operator that can support the RoamSIM, you may manually select a supporting GSM operator if automatic connection to the default GSM operator is not successful. This can happen if you are in a country where there is more than one roaming agreement with various GSM operators. When you are unable to receive or do not receive a callback call after you have initiated the calling operation, you may manually select another available GSM operator to initiate the calling operation again.
Can I use my credit card to charge up the credit in my RoamSIM account?
Yes. You can charge up the credit of your RoamSIM account on-line at www.airello.com. Please register online so as to be able to activate this service and to obtain a RoamSIM security code for your online secure transactions.
Will I lose the credit in RoamSIM account if I do not use my RoaMSIM for an extended period of time?
You will not lose your credit as long as your number is active. You card will remain active for 12 months from the date of the last credit charge-up. If there is no credit charge-up made to your RoamSIM account for a 12-month period, your RoamSIM account will expire, and all your credit balance will then be lost also.
Each time you do a recharge of credit to your RoamSIM account, the charge-up credit amount is added to the credit balance in your RoamSIM account.
What are the amounts of credit charge up I can make to my RoamSIM account?
The charge-up amount may be US$20, US$50, US$100 or any amount greater than US$100.
